The discussion of service dogs versus emotional support dogs might lead some to believe that one is "better" than the other. This discussion is not valid. The best dog for someone who needs a service dog or an emotional support dog is the one that meets the specific needs of the person making a choice. The criteria for that will vary, but there are technical and legal differences between service dogs and support dogs. The dogs at Annabelle Acres are "Retired" and they are looking for just one loving "furever" home. Labrador Retrievers have a way of finding the people who need them. Every day they provide us with happiness and unconditional love. One of our adoptable adult Labrador Retrievers may be able to give a military veteran some comfort and emotional support when needed the most.

Our family has great respect for all of the first responders in our local communities.  The term "first responder" refers to those individuals who in the early stages of an incident are responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, and the environment. First responders typically include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, rescuers, and other trained members of organizations connected with this type of work.  First responders train to deal with a wide array of potential medical emergencies. Because of the high level of stress and uncertainty associated with the position, first responders must maintain physical and mental health. The kids are out of the house, and now you need a new face to look at you. Perhaps you need something to keep you active. Having the right Lab can be helpful, fun, and good for your health and well-being.  For older adults, this becomes even more important as some people will start to feel lonely as the rest of the family deals with their own busy lives. Labs can be a great companion for seniors as they give unconditional love and support. A Labrador Retriever companion is great for many reasons, one of the biggest being the level of exercise people get when they own a Lab. Not only do they play with them around the house, but Labs also need to be walked, which is a great way to stay active.  Labs are athletic, playful, travel well, and the most popular breed of dog. They're friendly, respond well to training, and always love a car ride.
